School Aged Children

What happens during my child’s session?

  • Your child will sit in a quiet room and listen to a variety of sounds
  • They may be asked to click buttons on a computer screen, raise their hand, or repeat back words that they hear
  • CI Users: Your child will wear one or two of their speech processors using their default programs for testing

What is our commitment?

  • We test children for multiple visits over a 3-year period
  • Typically, we see your child for 2 visits per year for 3 years 
  • Each visit lasts 1.5-3 hours
  • Scheduling is flexible!
  • We will schedule visits whenever is convenient for you
  • Testing is possible on the evenings/weekends depending on lab availability

What about costs?

  • There are no costs to you and no insurance billing
  • Reimbursement includes $15.00 per hour as well as parking
  • Reimbursement for travel expenses and local lodging may be available for some participants.  Please visit our out of area tab or inquire with study personnel.

Your child’s participation will help us:

  • Identify correlations between your ability to discriminate patterns of sounds and understand speech
  • Confirm and compare to previous studies exploring these relationships
  • Identify age-related differences in specific listening skills
